Causes of Elbow Pain:

  • Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis): Tennis elbow is a condition characterized by inflammation and microtears in the tendons on the outer side of the elbow. It is commonly caused by repetitive gripping or wrist extension motions, not limited to playing tennis. Activities like typing, painting, or using hand tools can also contribute to the development of tennis elbow. The repetitive strain on the tendons leads to degeneration and pain on the outer part of the elbow, which can radiate down the forearm.
  • Golfer's Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis): Golfer's elbow is similar to tennis elbow but affects the tendons on the inner side of the elbow. It is caused by repetitive wrist flexion or gripping activities, such as swinging a golf club, but can also occur due to other repetitive motions like hammering or throwing. The repetitive stress on the tendons causes inflammation and small tears, leading to pain and tenderness on the inner part of the elbow.
  • Elbow Bursitis: Elbow bursitis occurs when the bursa, a fluid-filled sac that cushions the joint, becomes inflamed. Prolonged pressure, repetitive movements, or direct trauma to the elbow can cause bursitis. Activities like leaning on the elbow for extended periods, repetitive kneeling, or constant friction against the elbow can lead to bursitis. The inflamed bursa causes pain, swelling, and tenderness around the elbow joint.
  • Elbow Tendinitis:Elbow tendinitis refers to the inflammation of the tendons in the elbow joint. Overuse, repetitive motions, or improper technique during activities like throwing, lifting heavy objects, or playing certain sports can lead to tendinitis. The repetitive stress on the tendons causes irritation and inflammation, resulting in pain, stiffness, and difficulty with movement around the elbow.
  • Elbow Sprain: An elbow sprain occurs when the ligaments in the elbow joint are stretched or torn. It can happen due to a fall, direct impact, or sudden twisting motion of the elbow. Sports activities, accidents, or traumatic events can cause sprains. Depending on the severity of the sprain, it can result in varying degrees of pain, swelling, instability, and limited range of motion.
  • Elbow Fracture : Fractures in the bones of the elbow, such as the humerus or the ulna, can cause severe pain and limited mobility.
